Objective

To ensure that the community have meaningful input into development, consideration, and decision-making on any significant project, process or policy undertaken by Hamilton City Council.

Policy

That Council will, where practicable, seek the fullest involvement of the community where it initiates, or reviews any significant project, process, or Council Policy.

  1. Council shall identify and promote the use of Best Practice approaches to consultation, which ensures that community input is meaningful, transparent, fair and honest.

  2. Any proposed significant project, process or policy initiative shall incorporate into its project design a consultation programme which identifies the scope, scale, proposed methods, and reporting mechanisms to be used. This programme to be approved by Council.

  3. Council's Community Consultation Guidelines will be followed in determining an appropriate consultation process.

  4. Council will regularly review and audit the effectiveness of its approaches and be innovative in the use of new and improved methodologies.
