Hamilton Park Cemetery

Hamilton City Council operates Hamilton Park Cemetery and Crematorium and this site has served the community since 1957. Crematorium and chapel facilities were provided in 1963 to cater for cremation and on site services.

This cemetery currently operates on fourteen hectares (14ha) with a further eighteen hectares(18ha) available for future development. It provides for burials, ash interment, full chapel and committal services and cremation. An administration office is situated to the right of the Chapel.

There are feature sight lines flowing through the cemetery. The gardens are set out to provide tranquility and privacy, with seating available throughout the various lawns and gardens. The identification of the burial lawns follow a tree theme reflected in the name and plantings of the each area.

Hamilton East Cemetery

Hamilton West Cemetery and Hamilton East Cemetery

Council is also responsible for Hamilton West Cemetery, on Willoughby Street, which opened in 1869 and was closed in 1975. Hamilton East Cemetery, near Hamilton Gardens, opened in 1866 and is currently limited to reserve plot burials and ash interments. These two cemeteries provide a resting place for our city forebears.

Details of some of our city forebears resting at the Hamilton East Cemetery are recorded in a booklet in conjunction with an outline of a one hour heritage walk of this cemetery. This booklet is available at the Hamilton Park Cemetery Administration Office or at the Hamilton Gardens Information Centre.
