Building your own home, refurbishing an existing home, or interested in finding out more about Hamilton's 'green' buildings, then the Sustainable Urban Design programme is for you.

The programme aims to contribute to a sustainable future for Hamilton through exploring designs that improve comfort and health, reduce natural resource consumption and save money.

2010 Sustainable Urban Design Workshops

There is something for everyone in the 2010 Green Home Workshop Series.  Make sure you register and get involved.

The Green Building Network Waikato has its very own Facebook page.  Sign up to view photos and receive updates on what’s happening. This is an open invitation group set up for people to share ideas, resources, information, and to learn off each other by asking questions.

Eco-design advisor

Hamilton City Council has an eco-design advisor, Ian Mayes, who is available to provide free, easily accessible and independent information on a range of environmental design issues to both homeowners and designers/trades people. Ian can offer advice on a broad range of sustainable building issues, from upgrading insulation levels to options on earth building. An important message is that an "eco house" doesn't have to mean a straw bale house with chooks running through it! It can simply mean rotating your floor plan to get maximum solar gain.

Ian operates from the Building Review Department on the Ground Floor of Council. Simply phone him on 07 838 6773 or email him to make an appointment.
