Electronic waste (e-waste) can seriously harm the environment, wildlife and human health when dumped in landfills.  Landfilling e-waste is not a long term solution because it stores potentially toxic waste rather than allowing for recovery and reuse of valuable materials.

eDay is a simple, free and effective way to dispose of your household computer waste and old mobile phones in an environmentally sustainable way.

In 2007, 6,900 carloads across twelve regions dropped off 425 tonnes.  42 tonnes of this was collected in Hamilton.

In 2008 the service was even more popular with 90 tonnes of e-waste being diverted from landfill from over 900 cars in Hamilton alone and eDay organisors are expecting even higher numbers this year.  In 2009 860 cars dropped off 71 tonnes of e-waste.

What can you drop off?  Computer hardware, monitors, networking equipment, scanners, keyboards, mice, computer speakers, laptops, printers, toner and ink jet cartridges, games consoles and mobile phones.

We are unable to accept televisions, stereos, applicances and furniture.

If you would like to be added to the eDay information list, send an email to the Sustainable Environment Team and we'll let you know further details of eDay 2010.
