Bus Bike Walk for Free 09

The 2010 V8 Supercars streetrace in Hamilton will be held from Friday, 16 to Sunday, 18 April. For a limited time in the lead up to the event and during the race weekend, there will be some traffic restrictions in place. Some everyday services, such as markets, noise control and refuse collection may also be temporarily affected by these restrictions. Traffic restrictions will come into operation from 12pm midnight Wednesday, 14 April and remain in operation until 6am Monday, 19 April 2010.

The following is an outline of some of the key restrictions that will be in place for the 2010 event:

Parking at Founders Theatre during March and April

During the build up of the circuit for the V8 racing, street parking near Founders Theatre becomes progressively more restricted from approximately six weeks in advance of the race weekend and the theatre car park is limited. If attending events at Founders Theatre during this time, allow plenty of time to find alternative parking or use the Knox Street car park and the shuttle bus service and walk to the theatre. Access to the theatre itself for pedestrians also becomes restricted, please follow the signage to access points. These restrictions will continue for approximately a week after the race event.

Race circuit road closures

Roads that form the actual race circuit will be closed for four days – from around 12pm midnight Wednesday 14 April to 6am Monday 19 April in 2010. Thursday will be dedicated to putting in place the remaining concrete blocks to finish the continuous circuit barrier. Racing will take place only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Vehicle access to closed roads and properties lining the circuit will be restored by 6am Monday morning.

  • All roads will be open to traffic by 6am Monday morning.

Although the circuit will be screened from public view, in most places footpaths running adjacent to the circuit will be open for public access.

Questions?

If you have a question about the race circuit road closure period please contact Council's Transportation Unit on 838 6868 or email roads@hcc.govt.nz .

Limited access and no through road restrictions

A limited number of roads close to the race track or the event area will also be temporarily affected by a limited access or no through road restriction.

The race circuit cuts across a number of streets and this is the main reason that a street by the circuit may be affected by a temporary limited access or no through road resistriction. If you live or work on an affected street, you will still have access to your property and where at all possible Council and the event organiser are trying to ensure that access to your property is as normal as possible.

The exception to this is Claudelands Road and bridge, which at peak periods will be prioritised for buses only. When the bus peak finishes, traffic control will open the road and bridge for all traffic to use.

Questions?

If you have a question about limited access or no through road restrictions contact Council's Transportation Unit on 838 6868 or email roads@hcc.govt.nz .

Turning restrictions

At most locations where there is a turning restriction, right turning traffic will not be permitted. Traffic control will operate these restrictions at the affected locations on an as needed basis. Should a turning restriction be in place, there will be alternative routes close by which you can use to reach your particular destination.

Questions?

If you have a question about turning restrictions contact Council's Transportation Unit on 838 6868 or email roads@hcc.govt.nz .

Vehicle access

Vehicle access after the race

Vehicle access to roads that form the circuit and to properties on those roads will available by 6am Monday morning 19 April 2010. The remaining barrier blocks will then be progressively removed from the roads. It is expected this will be completed within the week.

Questions?

If you have a question about the restoration of vehicle access to roads after the race - especially the roads that form the race circuit - contact the ITM 400 Hamilton event organisers on 846 6559 or email info@csml.co.nz .

Vehicle accreditation pass

If you are situated in a property bordering the circuit or a property within the circuit area, Frankton business retail area (including Taniwha Street, Wye Street, Avon Street and Torrington Avenue) you can apply for a vehicle accreditation pass. The advantage of having vehicle accreditation is you can be quickly identified as rightfully accessing the area when at a vehicle access check point.

It is important to remember that the accreditation pass allows access to your property but does not allow you to breach any on street parking restrictions in place. To apply for accreditation, contact the ITM 400 Hamilton Race Office on 846 6559 or email info@csml.co.nz . It is important you do this as soon as possible to ensure you receive your vehicle accreditation pass in time for the event.

Questions?

If you have a question about vehicle accreditation contact the ITM 400 Hamilton event organisers on 846 6559 or email info@csml.co.nz .

Vehicle access check points

The following check point locations are there to protect key access areas around the circuit and to ensure that local residents, businesses, their staff and customers and those related to the event have unimpeded access. However, if you do not have a vehicle accreditation pass and if you have a legitimate reason for passing through one or more check points you will be able to do so.

  • It is important to remember that on-street parking restrictions will still apply beyond the vehicle access check points. In most cases this will mean no on-street parking. This restriction will apply to all vehicles.

The following locations were assigned as Vehicle Access Check Points in 2009 (we do not anticipate changes for 2010 but will ensure this is updated if changes do occur):

Recycling and refuse collection

Residential

If your property is located within the event area your recycling/refuse collection will change from the usual day to Wednesday 15 April 2009. If your collection day is affected by the event you will be reminded of this change of collection day within the week prior to collection by the collection contractor Waste Management.

Commercial

For commercial refuse collections on properties located within the event area it is highly recommended that you arrange with your refuse collection provider to have your regular collection before Wednesday 14 April 2010. From Wednesday night the circuit will be closed and surrounding roads will have restricted access, restricted turning space and there the possibility of increased congestion and pedestrians.

Questions?

For more information or any queries related to change of day for residential recycling and refuse collections contact Waste Management, phone 0800 10 10 10.

Frankton Market

The Frankton market will not run on the Saturday of the race event weekend. The market will operate as usual on the Saturday of the weeks leading up to and after the event weekend.

Free buses over race weekend

The city buses will be operating free of charge over the event weekend – Friday, 16 April to Sunday, 18 April 2010. The free bus service over the event weekend is very popular and successful. The bus frequency (half hourly) will be increased on Saturday and Sunday during the expected peak times in the morning (7.30-9.30am) and afternoon (4.30-6.30pm).

  • We anticipate the same bus service arrangements for 2010 as were in place in 2009. Any changes and confirmations will be updated when they have been determined.

Please note:

  • Sunday – only key Sunday routes serviced, as per current schedule.

  • In addition the newly commenced direct services and Night Rider service will function as normal.

Alternative means of transport include walking and cycling to the event. Cycle racks will be available at a number of locations around the circuit.
