Hamilton City Council has received a Notice of a Requirement from WEL Networks Limited for the establishment and operation of an 'electricity substation' (Cobham Drive Substation).  The site is located at the intersection of Cobham Drive and Anglesea Street, Hamilton.

The Notice of Requirement

The Notice of Requirement is for the establishment, construction, operation, maintenance, replacement, repair, upgrading or, and entrance to and exit from a substation, and parts of, and works for, or relating to, electricity transformation and distribution. The detail of the proposal are provided in Annexure 4 'Description of the Project' of the report 'Cobham Drive Substation Designation - Notice of Requirement'.

The site that the proposal relates to is an irregular shaped lot 523m2 in size at the intersection of Cobham Drive and Anglesea Street. The site is zoned Residential - High Density Area in the Hamilton City Proposed District Plan and is currently occupied by a WEL Networks Switching Station.

Current Status

On the 12th of February 2010 WEL Networks Limited accepted Council's recommendation in full to confirm the Notice of Requirement to designate land for the Cobham Drive Electricity substation.
