Since the Annual General Meeting the Association has been involved in a number of projects on your behalf over the past few months. These range from specific programmes targeted to event-goers to campaigns for the general public.
- Free St Parking on weekends
HCBA is the Council’s partner on this initiative and drove the decision to implement the free on-street parking trial until the end of the year. HCBA will also be invited to provide input into the city’s parking strategy in the upcoming year. The campaign included on-street signage, radio and newspaper advertising as well as direct mail to businesses.
- Craft & Quilt Fair
The Fair attracts close to 25,000 people, nationally and internationally, to the city each year. Elements included a full page advert in the event programme with another full page map of central city streets and key shopping locations. We were also able to extend a direct invitation to all exhibitors to dine in the city.
- All Blacks/South Africa Rugby Test Match
Mastercard Promotion extended to all businesses as an opportunity to dress up the city and win a signed All Blacks jersey delivered by Buck Shelford. Burger Fuel came a close second to Lone Star Restaurant, and many other hospitality and retail operators around the city centre took up the challenge with verve.
- Summer in Garden Place – pre Christmas
HCBA is contributing to a free bus service into the central city (all routes, all day long) on Saturdays, December 12, 19 and 26. The association is also sponsoring ‘Fun Stop in Garden Place’ on the 19th along with Council to provide entertainment for families coming into the city to shop and dine prior to Christmas. Activities include a Christmas Craft Market, an inflatable climbing tower & bouncy castle, face painting, and other entertainment in Garden Place. |
